Get rid of it!
It seems we depend a lot on other practitioners to fix our aches and pains. Back pain - get an adjustment at the chiropractor, sore neck - go to the massage therapist, shoulder pain - go get acupuncture, knee pain - replace it! Although I believe those modalities are beneficial for some, I also know that oftentimes people ignore where the problem actually stems from.
For the last 3 years, I have studied Posture Alignment with The Egoscue Method and Yoga as Therapy with Doug Keller. Both believe that if you fix your posture, you will not have pain. From personal experience, I understand the importance of proper alignment. I suffered from SI joint pain for weeks before realizing that the pain was stemming from rotation in my torso and hips, not where my symptom was. After realigning my upper body there was an immediate effect on how my lower body felt and functioned.
The one thing people overlook is posture. It is a simple concept; our joints are supposed to line up, creating 90 degree angles. This is the blueprint of our skeletal structure. If it deviates from this position, our bodies will let us know with pain! The great thing is you can fix it... yourself. Just like a chiropractic adjustment, the goal is to move the bones into the right position. With exercise therapy (corrective postural exercises), you retrain the right muscles to move the bone into the right position and, most importantly, get those muscles to hold the bone there!
Here is a simple test to check your own posture:
1. Stand with your heels touching the wall, back against the wall. Is your head touching the wall? Are both shoulders against the wall? Do you feel like you are falling forward?
2. Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Are your feet facing forward? Are you knee caps facing the same way? Is one shoulder higher than the other?
3. Close your eyes. Do you feel like your weight is evenly distributed? Are you more on your heels or toes?
Send me a message on what you have found and I'll give you some corrective exercises to realign your body!

ZUMBA
My latest addiction!
I started dance when I was 3 years old. I love music. I love reggaeton, latin, afro, cuban movement. I like shaking my hips. I like to salsa. I like merengue. I like to dance to the beat. I like to burn calories. I like to feel sexy while burning calories. I get bored easily...
I am not bored Zumba-ing! I absolutely love dance cardio and I have found a little studio down the street that offers Zumba.. almost everyday! I am in love! For those of you who know me, I can't stand the treadmill.. I can't stand running. I'm definitely a mover and shaker and this is why I naturally like Zumba :)
Not only has Zumba won my heart over, but my sister's as well. The Nimedez Girls are at it again... dancin' dancin' dancin'... one of our favorite things to do together now.. besides shopping that is. Siobhan even got Zumba certified!
Never fear, I'm next up and I can't wait to start teaching and inspiring! My Zumba training is the beginning of October and I am ready to spread the love!!
Do you live in LA? Come join me! Today @ 4:30pm. Your Neighborhood Studio, Culver City. Be there. Shake your booty. Sweat like hell. Join the Party.

Restriction: Corrective Lenses...
...No longer.
Sending out a BIG THANK YOU to Dr. Granberry and his staff at the Lasik Spa in West LA. After a few years of thinking about LASIK, I successfully and finally decided to go under the laser. Wow. I can't believe I waited this long... what a miracle this is. I am so grateful for Dr. Granberry. He was so generous to have sponsored my surgery, giving me the most unbelievable gift of perfect vision.
For over 10 years, I wore contact lenses. For the past 5 days, I've been able to skip the morning hassle of "inserting my eyes" if you will. I can't get over the fact that I have such clear vision. For those of you who wear contacts or glasses, you know what I mean. Lasik will change your life! Do it.. Do it now! If you have any concern or doubt, please don't hesitate to contact me.
To be honest, I was scared to death about getting this procedure done and postponed my appointments many times. Dr. Granberry and his staff made me feel so comfortable and kept reassuring me that everything was going to be just fine. I am so pleased and appreciative. I will never forget this experience and I encourage anyone who is thinking about it to go in and get it done! You won't regret it!

MY MUST HAVE WORKOUT ACCESSORY!!
As many of you know, I am a firm believer in functional training and I have found my match made in heaven! My absolute must have this summer is the TRX- Suspension training that will sculpt and tone your body like no machine!!
At LIFE, I have been training people one on one and have gotten nothing but positive feedback. I have been training myself on it for about a year and LOVE the results. I finally took the training course last month and I am pumped to share with you all the knowledge that I have learned!
So, if you haven't already, check it out and let me know what you think. It may look easy, but Total Body Resistance Exercise will challenge you like nothing else. The best part- it is sooo easy to travel with and set up in your home. You just anchor it on any door or hang it from a tree!!
I'm going to post some TRX workouts up on my website soon so check back to see MY favorite moves!

NYLA Photoshoot

Last week I shot with Michael Anthony for a NYLA shoe ad that will be up at the biggest shoe event in Las Vegas. Had a great time- it was a hot shoot- literally. Up in Eagle Rock, it must have been at least 15 degrees hotter then the coast. Phew! Hope you like the photo above, they really liked the pics in this little itty number.
After seeing the proofs of this shoot, I feel like I know what poses suit me best and which ones I should completely avoid! I had some really bad shots in the set! This was my first photoshoot in about 8 months. Luckily, all you need is ONE good shot out of the whole shoot... the money shot!!
I have a few more photoshoots coming up in the next few weeks. One will be for promotional photos for a webseries I'll be acting in and producing a bit. Another one.. yoga set. The other shoot will be with a male model. Getting my sexy on. Ha! Once I get all these photos, my photo section on my website will be updated with a lot more pictures- check back soon :)
Good day, all!

...
who knows if the moon's
a balloon,coming out of a keen city
in the sky--filled with pretty people?
(and if you and i should
get into it,if they
should take me and take you into their balloon,
why then
we'd go up higher with all the pretty people
than houses and steeples and clouds:
go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
city which nobody's ever visited,where
always
it's
Spring)and everyone's
in love and flowers pick themselves

Gravity
This is my favorite dance piece of the SYTYCD season. Performed by Kayla and Kupono, choreographed by Mia Michaels. We all have some sort of addiction in life... this piece represents how powerful and intense it can be... the lines, the technique, the emotion. It makes me realize how much I love movement in general... the stories you create, the feeling you project...without saying a word.

For Sh*ts and Giggles!
For your entertainment ... a blast of the past.
I moved to LA back in 2007 and one of my first projects was a runway show/tv pilot for a fashion designer, ShaDang. Giggle number one, I am not a runway model... I am 5'3 mind you... giggle number two, the whole idea.
Even though it's a bit silly, this was one of THE HARDEST training I have ever been through in my entire life!!! I don't know how the other models survived quite honestly. In a nutshell, there were 20 models who spent 5 days, 4 nights up in Pacific Palisades at a ranch, training 10 hours a day in Martial Arts, taught by real Chinese Monks. Not a joke. I felt like I was back at Bela Karolyi's Texas Ranch. The training was pretty hard core... the show was incredibly fun. Here was the TV Pilot.. I'm in there probably a whole 3 seconds... try and find me :) good luck.

Sorry for my absence...
...I was surrounded by hot dogs at Costco. Phew, glad I got that one off my chest. Sometimes a girl just wants to eat whatever the heck she feels like eating... just one of those days :)
In all honesty, after a few months of exploring the other side of the world, I am back home and ready to pick up where I left off...same focus, same desire with a whole lot of energy and a new set of goals!
I have to say, one thing that I learned overseas, was to stay grounded. We live in a country full of opportunity and hope and dreams- which I completely embrace, but sometimes I feel so wrapped up in that, I forget what truly makes me happy... I had to question, is it really my accomplishments that define me? Although fulfilling my goals are a huge part of my life, it is not my main source of happiness! My family, my friends... the people who I love ... they make me who I am, they keep me going. So before I blog on about my career goals, I have to send out a big cyber bundle of LOVE to all the people in my life... you know who you are :)
With all that said and done, let's get down to business!
As I re-read my original goals in previous posts, I clearly had the mindset to compete. How quickly things have changed. As much as I love the stage, the spotlight, the performance, the competition- it's going to be on the backburner until the end of the year. To be bigger, to be more defined, to have better skills, to have an awesome routine... to win more titles...yes I'd love that, but right now my focus has a bit more depth to it.
I recently started working at Camp again. I love my job. I absolutely love it. It is a blessing to witness such a positive change in people's lives. The other day I was in the gym teaching yoga and an old camper walked in the door. I nearly fainted. This woman lost so much weight and I barely recognized her. She looked amazing and happy and full of life. She ran up and hugged me and she couldn't stop saying "thank you- it was all you, baby". I love her! I will never forget any single camper that I get to work with. Their dedication inspires me more than they will ever know!
I am happy to report I have also had the opportunity to work more outside of work, if you will. As many of you know, last year I attended a Fitness Model International Conference and it was a huge networking experience for me. I met so many people in the fitness industry that led to booking commercials, magazine spreads, sponsors, photoshoots, contributing articles and tv hosting! I am ever so grateful for that experience and it gave me a real foundation of where I wanted to take my fitness career beyond competing and training.
With that said, the media section on my website has been updated. I have been hosting fitness and lifestyle shows for LA Muscle TV which is actually airs on Europes SKY TV Cable. It is also available to watch online at www.lamuscle.tv

No pain, No gain
(Don't worry Egoscue, I'm talkin work pain, muscle pain.. not that pain pain ;)
Working hard here... training is going ok, but I think I am being super hard on myself. Friends are saying to take it easy... as they know how I can burn out fast- and when I crash, I fall hard sometimes.
It's frustrating when you expect so much from yourself. When you work really hard and don't see the pay off. It's funny- I see this and hear this from my clients all the time and I always tell them - it will come, be patient, keep working, eat clean, stay focused- and you will see results. I'm feeling like I need to listen to my own advice.
I am constantly training- for work- and after... and am feeling the burn. I'm almost getting to that point where I am burning too much, yet not burning the right thing. I'm nervous I am constantly building muscle and burning it at the same time. So frustrating... and no time to eat.
Blehhhh.. no excuses. I just thought I'd write- to let it out- to share my frustration- because we're all in this together. It's a mind game. All I can say is... stay focused. So.. STAY FOCUSED!
Today my body is sore... and I love that feeling. I'm pretty pumped for this week's training. My sister has agreed to train with me, which is great. It is always easier to work out with a buddy. She's got some massive muscle too... Once she's back into the swing of things, she is going to be rock solid. Feel the pain, sister! This is going to be a great.

Crossfit Segment up!
Dusty, Rob and I shot this segment last week and it's up on the LA Muscle TV site. Check it out here!
Reality check...
I really want to go to Vancouver on April 18th for a show- even if it's just for bikini. So, kicking it into high gear next 6.5 weeks so I can get out there and rock a bikini on a stage.
Waiting to hear back from TC, but I may be at the Fit Expo in Anaheim first weekend in March at the TC booth. Will keep you posted.
Also, my dear friend Lauri Ashworth opened up her beautiful yoga studio called THE HUB in West LA. Please check it out, take a class and support her. Classes begin on tues... I'll be taking class as well. See you there!!

The girls have talked me into it. It's interesting how SMALL the "fitness industry" really is. The same people are at the same competitions, in the same magazines, have the same pictures... kind of funny- but in no way am I complaining- I mean, hey.. I want to be a part of the fun, too! But, hopefully, I won't be put in the "same" category. Sometimes these comps need a little spice... a little brunette...a little chicken "wing". Ha! Inside joke. But, I'm definitely not hoping to be just another fitness/bikini girl.
-------
As I post all these competitions and tell more people about it... they always end the conversation with... "please don't get any bigger". What? I'm so small right now! I struggle with image. As much as I would love to win competitions in fitness, I am finding I'd much rather keep a feminine frame. Sometimes I even question why I'd even think twice about adding more muscle. Is it ego? The only reason why I'd want more is because my competitors have more. Let's be honest... ego get's in the way sometimes, but the reality is... I'd much rather stand out by being natural- if you know what I mean- in all aspects :)
-------
Aside from the upcoming competitions, I've got a few other things lined up. Saturday I'll be hosting another episode for LA Muscle TV. I can't wait!
I'll also be doing a second test screen shot for Lifetime. They are in the works of producing a "make-over" type tv series and I am a candidate to be the trainer on the show :) We shall see.
------
That's all for now- thank you for all the emails and comments- I appreciate all the support you all are giving me :) Rock on and LIVE FIT friends!!

Reality Magazine February Issue

I finally saw a copy of Reality Magazine!! I was picked to be in the magazine featured as a Fitness Model/Competitor- interview style along with one of my pictures by Sami Vaskola. Pretty awesome considering I've never had a whole page to myself ;) They even titled me as "LIL MISS FIT". It's official... the name stuck after hosting an episode on LA Muscle TV.
Speaking of LA Muscle- We are going to re-shoot the CROSSFIT training episode. It will include a bit of Crossfit, gymnastics, boxing, krav maga and maybe a bit of acro... we shall see how it goes. I will also be hosting a few segments on breakdancing. These probably won't take place for another few months, but I'll keep you posted once we tape.
Feeling photoshoot withdrawls. LOL. In need of updated photos... I predict sometime this year... very soon. Probably April once my figure is in competition status ;) Yay!
Thanks for everyone's support... don't forget to check out Reality Mag... !!!

Inspired!
Today I made a visit to The Los Angeles Fitness Expo at the Convention Center. I ran into a ton of friends in the industry and everyone there was so positive and encouraging... the season is about to start in the spring and everyone is pumped. Inspired... yes... the ball is rolling and the fire is there!
I have been getting a ton of feedback this year about what direction I should head in. At first, I was so focused on Fitness and getting bigger bigger bigger in size. The reality is... I'm tiny... and even if I gained a ton of muscle and lost more body fat, I am still going to look petite on stage. The great thing is, I am OK with that. I never wanted to become a figure competitor or have too much muscle. I like being proportionate and I like looking au natural.
I was chatting with show producers and fellow fitness competitors at the expo today about how the woman competitors in certain divisions keep getting larger and muscular every year. The bikini girls are looking like fitness girls, the fitness girls are looking like figure girls and the figure girls are looking like body builders. BODY BUILDERS...?? oh my! Well, it turns out NPC and a few other shows are going to add a Bikini division. It is the first year and the rules are set. The goal is to keep fit and toned but stay feminine ladies!
It is exciting to hear news like this. I was planning on doing FAP bikini and fitness this year as well as Ms. Fitness USA of course, but I am going to participate in the new bikini round at Muscle Beach, WBFF and NPC. Some girls say it is disrespectful to jump from one organization to another, but let's be honest- I like competing and I really want to represent fit femininity in the industry. I want to go for more titles this year too! My big goal is to inspire woman to get fit... lead by example... live healthy without having to look like a bodybuilder! The best part of having a Bikini round in a Muscle competition- you are still PROMOTING FITNESS AND A HEALTHY ACTIVE LIFESTYLE... Feminine and Fit... I may be LIL MISS FIT, but I have a BIG statement I want to get across this year.
Here is a tentative competition schedule.
April 4 Ms. Fitness, Inland Empire
April 18 WBFF B.C Championships, Vancouver (Fitness Model & Bikini)
May 9 Ms. Fitness, Vista
May 23 NPC, Culver City (Bikini)
May 25 Muscle Beach International Classic (Bikini)
June 27 Ms. Fitness, Los Angeles
July 18 Ms. Fitness Legacy, Los Angeles

LIVE FIT!
I like being proportionate and I like looking au natural.

eat, work, tape, train, rehearse and repeat.
Wow. It's been 2 weeks since the new year. It seems the year is already going by so fast. I made it a personal goal to start training and dieting for the competition season Jan 1, and it has been a struggle. A new job, a new apartment and not a whole lot working out and dieting is happening! I'm starting to feel a little bit more focused as the apartment feels more like a home. I hate to make excuses, but as soon as my kitchen is organized, my diet will be too.
The good news is that I've reached my goal weight of 115 lbs. This is the heaviest I've ever been and I'm really excited about it LOL. Right now, I am at 17% body fat and would like to get it down to 12%... by August :) Plenty of time...
Here is a rough outline of my diet... courtesy of my body builder older brother (in-law) .. check him out www.bigsherwin.com
Diet:
Meal#1 10 eggs white 2 yolks / 1 cup oatmeal / 1 banana.
Meal#2 8 oz. chicken / 2 cups rice / 1 cup broccoli.
Meal#3 2 scoops whey protein( 50grams) / 10 oz. potato.
Meal#4 8 oz. chicken / 2 cups rice / 1 cup broccoli.
Meal#5 8 oz. Flank steak / 10 oz. potato / large salad.
Meal#6 2 scoops whey protein / half cup fat free cottage cheese / half cup oatmeal.
24 oz. water with each meal.
I have to eat a lot more than expected because of my high metabolism and what I do for a living. I do have a 9a-5p job, but it's not your typical. As a trainer in a live in fitness facility, I have the BLESSING of working out everyday. A pro and a con... My typical work day will include a 2 hour bike ride, 1.5 hour hike and 1 hour of swimming or water aerobics. Very cool... considering this is my "job". Absolutely a fitness enthusiast's ideal job. The thing is, as a fitness competitor, I burn too much, too fast. I have to make sure my eating is right on schedule and that I am eating enough. Sometimes, I'm so exhausted from my day job, it's hard to stay focused and go to the gym and lift heavy. But, everyday, I am inspired by my clients and will often think of them if I even think about slacking off. If they can do it, I can do it.
Other updates:
The next few weeks I have to be very strict on myself. I will be working with LAMUSCLE TV again as they will be documenting my journey with Kujo for my big return to the stage.... Feb. 21st... Taping is tentatively this weekend and will definitely showcase the creative process combined with the insight of our personalities. Krazy Kujo and lil miSsfit... anything is possible when you put us together...stay tuned!! There is also the Fitness Expo at the end of the month that I will be attending. Hopefully I can stay super clean on diet so i can look somewhat defined :) In Feb, I'll be shooting another segment for Jamo Nezzar with My Fit Tribe. Right now my Pre-Workout Exercises are on the homepage with Ozzie Jacobs. I'll be teaming up with Ms. Jacobs again and we will be demonstrating different ways of stretching. Lot's of good stuff happening! Check back for more updates and hopefully I can say I've stayed on track with dieting and training!!! Argg, sometimes it so hard... but if you think you can, YOU CAN AND WILL!!!
Stay focused....
